What a joy it is to help plan and promote this elegant evening for the
third year in a row! I feel so fortunate that God has allowed me this
opportunity. This year’s gala evening was attended by 132 guests who
dined on Roast Pork, Potatoes au Gratin and Fiesta Corn, followed by
chocolate-dipped strawberries! We’re so blessed to have underwriters who
pay for the meal, the speaker, and the venue so that the proceeds raised
that evening can be 100 percent for the ministry! Thank you to all who
donated before, after and during! Our net proceeds for the evening totaled around $12,000 which is about one-fourth of our annual budget, so we thank God for this demonstration of generosity from his people, even in these difficult economical times. This year’s guest speaker was Kirk Walden, who shared his testimony of going from the heights of the professional golfing world to the reality of life as a single dad. Once a director of a pregnancy care ministry, Kirk now is the editor of “Life Trends Monthly”, a publication that reaches about 5,000 pregnancy centers in North America and inspires board members, directors, volunteers, and donors to learn more about the trends and opportunities in this mission field. This year we had a mentor-in-training share her testimony and how she has been led to Agape – Rebecca Warren is a non-traditional grad student at Wayne State in the counseling program and her own experience with unplanned pregnancy taught her much about God’s grace and about His ultimate plans for her life. Her “unexpected pregnancy” is now a fine young Christian man who is 23 years old, gainfully employed, and newly married. And to think, some would have recommended to abort him! The whole evening was woven together by the melodic acapella harmonies of “A Measure of Salt” (six singers from First Presbyterian Church) and tied together by Dr. Joe Metcalf our eminent master of ceremonies. A wonderful evening! If you didn’t get a chance to attend and you would like to make or renew a yearly pledge, please contact us at 844-3000 or info@agapepcc.org. |
